Drums are known to be one of the oldest percussion instruments. They have been used by the Indigenous cultures not only in ceremony, but also in ritual prayer, Shamanic journey, vision quests, to connect to Mother Earth, music, spiritual ceremonies and healing. Working with my Native American Hand Drum I have developed a deep connection with it, with the healing it promotes, and the people from whom it originated from.
Sound healing uses vibration to help balance the flow of energy throughout the chakras of your body. It can help clear emotional blocks, promote relaxation and a meditative state and assist in accessing higher levels of consciousness. It can also help to release tension and stress.
During a sound healing session, the drum resembles the heartbeat of a mother when the child is in the womb, the first sound a child hears before they enter this world. This heartbeat also represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth and our connection to all things. It can be very soothing and nurturing. I have witnessed clients have a profound emotional release during a Reiki session that included sound healing.
